Mercedes-Benz F-CELL: History Repeats Itself

Mercedes-Benz wants us to see the future by looking at the past. The F-CELL concept roadster is directly derived from the Benz Patent Motorwagen, the granddaddy of all cars, the one that started it all. This car though, is a mixture of the old and the new. The carbon fiber body with an F1-inspired front nose is powered by a 1.2 kilowatt fuel cell giving a top speed of 25 mph. Inside are carbon fiber seats that are covered in traditional leather. Gone is the steering wheel and replaced with a joystick for fly-by-wire control. The whole package rolls on large spoked bicycle wheels to complete the whole retro look. While this is just a concept, Mercedes engineers believe in the great importance of their past to envision what’s to come for our favorite mode of transportation.

Audi Calamaro Flying Concept Car Takes Future Design Competitions To Higher Level [Concept Cars]

This futuristic take on a flying car was designed by Hungarian design student Tibor for a design contest run by his native Porsche distributor. Inspired by the “bone of a cuttlefish,” the Audi Calamaro does a good job of looking kind of like its name suggests while still adapting current Audi design themes — check out the ‘beard’ air intake — to a product clearly intended for the distant future. We can spot no obvious means of propulsion, so can only assume it uses a Mr. Fusion.

Audi Shark Concept Car

This concept car from Audi is incredibly stunning without a doubt! It’s the work ok Kazim Doko, who made the usual Audi car into a flying sports car which was Audi’s entry into the Desire Design Competition held by the Italian Domus Academy. It has two seats side by side, and it seems taken from a science fiction movie. See the pics below.

Ferrari 599 GTB: Two New Versions

As if the Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano wasn’t good enough, the think-tanks in Maranello felt that the car needed a few more tweaks. This is why at the Geneva Motor Show, they’ll unwrap two new versions, the 599 GTB HGTE or Handling GT Evoluzione and the 599XX. The HGTE promises a more spirited ride with the stiffer springs and bigger brakes plus a retuned exhaust system that’ll sing a very different note. The 599XX on the other hand is Ferrari’s laboratory on wheels. A lot of development both for their street cars and their F1 racers will go into the 599XX and will even sport the same colors as the new F60, the one that Felipe Massa and Kimi Raikkonen will race in. While the 599 HGTE might be available for those who have the dough, it’s doubtful that anyone with a checkbook will be allowed by Ferrari to own the 599XX. No details on pricing yet.

In addition, the roof is shingled in solar panels to give a contemporary eco-friendly look and save energy. Though the driver and passenger look like they’re members of Devo.
