Car Maintenance Costs

Car Repair CostsWhether you’re buying a new car, or you own one right now, you probably want to know how much it’s going to cost you down the road to maintain that vehicle, and keep it up to date.  Before you start looking into specifics, you’ll want to know your make, and model, since all cars aren’t created equally.  Some makes and models are known to go the shop more than some others.  If you do your research, you should be able to find which ones don’t pass the test.

Now, no matter what kind of car you drive, you’ll find out that every car is going to need the necessities like an oil change, new brake pads, etc.  Below is a list of things you’re probably going to need every so often, no matter how nicely you drive the car.

Most experts will tell you that you need to set aside at least $100 – $250 a year to cover your maintenance expenses.  A lot of your wear and tear will lead you to get new tires, brake pads, and of course, you’ll need an oil change every 3,000 miles or so.  These are the things that you can’t get away from,  no matter what kind of car you’re driving.

Check out this Edmunds.com tool: Edmunds has a great tool that you can use in order to see what kind of parts, and tune ups you’re going to need.  You’ll input your make, model, and Edmunds will tell you exactly what you should check out, and how much it’s going to cost you.  It’s a great way to see what needs to be done on your car.

After checking out that tool, I would recommend that every 5,000 – 10,000 miles, you get a 5 point inspection.  Many mechanics will do it for a relatively low cost.  Keep your eyes peeled for a coupon, and take advantage of a deal.  Just make sure that you go to a place that they know what they are doing.
